Rhythm Keys
We are surrounded by rhythm and discovering it and working with it is an exhilarating musical experience and also strengthens your "self". The key to this experience is simply listening and trusting your ability. My workshops will train your sense of listening and the use of your self and your instrument purely by drumming together and developing grooves and timing.
Instruments
Djembés, bass drums and claves will be used as the basis instruments for most classes (congas, darrabukkas, frame drums, small percussion, etc can be introduced upon request).
Course Material
After becoming familiar with your instrument you will begin to learn to talk with the drum, using what I refer to as the keystones to rhythm:
Call/Response
Vocalization
Stroke technique
Body percussion
Compositions
Skin Dynamics® (or New A.T.®)
These help develop and enhance your rhythmical ability, whether a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, and allow you to integrate your learnt skills into a group whether with fellow drummers or other musicians.
Regular workshops usually take place at weekends (see Calendar) but additional workshops can be arranged according to the groups requirements (i.e.: time and location). I supply the instruments, so unless you prefer to bring your own it is unnecessary.
