Tailor made lessons
Whether individually (solo) or as a small group (duo or trio) private lessons are on offer at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels on the following drums:
Djembé
Conga
Frame drum
Darabukka
Drum kit
Depending on the instrument three different types of technique and other skills will be explored:
Hand technique for Djembe and/or Conga, and small percussion. A full repertoire of Latin/African rhythms, technique (open, closed, bass, slap, tipping, heal/toe) grooving, improvising (solo and group).
Finger technique for Frame drums Darabukka and Tabla. Classical oriental rhythms, various finger techniques (depending on drum), independence.
Stick technique for Drum kit-rhythms, free style, warm ups, stick control, posture, independence.
Instruction
As with the workshops a strong emphasis is made on discovering or strengthening your own feeling for timing which is of paramount importance when playing with other artists. This is achieved by dividing the lesson into a warm up phase adopting body percussion and vocalization to school the inner metronome and independence. A technique phase is included at the beginning stages of learning and explores the different sounds that you can make with a drum e.g. strengthening your slap sound (as listed above). Particular focus is made on playing the set rhythm phase where notated cycles are demonstrated and then repeated by the student.You will also be trained to play specific beats that have been passed on from the Latin, African and Arabic families of percussion. A system of simple notation will be used to assist the learning process and/or a listening system known as Call/Response that is very beneficial for developing confidence and playing style. The last Jamming phase mostly takes place at the end of each lesson and allows the student to try out what they have learned and play along with the teacher and others.

Duration of each lesson block is 45 minutes.
Solo: €17,00 (€14,00*) / lesson
Duo: €14,00 (€11,00*) / lesson / person
Trio: €11,00 (€8,00*) / lesson / person
(*) with concessions
Minimum 3 Month term.
Instruments are supplied upon request.
